The upcoming Jaguar Land Rover EV will use a platform from Chinese car brand Chery

July 11, 2024 By admin

Chinese manufacturer Chery has confirmed that its future Jaguar Land Rover EV will use the Exeed platform. The Exceed is a subsidiary of Chinese manufacturer Chery, which makes premium SUVs. Chery chairman Yin Tongyao has confirmed that JLR will adopt the Chinese manufacturer’s platform for its future PHEV and BEV models.

The British luxury carmaker uses Exeed’s M3X and E0X architecture, which underpins cars like the Chery Tiggo 9, Luxeed 7, Luxeed R7, Exeed RX and more. Chery and JLR have had a joint venture in China to produce Jaguar Land Rover vehicles since 2012. However, Exeed has since 2017 become the official supplier of JLR’s electric vehicle platform.

The M3X platform, known as T2X in China, is dedicated to ICE and PHEV. The M3X architecture can be equipped with Chery’s “super hybrid” powertrain, which includes a gasoline-electric engine combined with two electric motors. The E0X platform was developed by Chery and Huawei and supports the 800V high-voltage charging architecture. The E0X is under cars such as the Exlantix ES, Exlantix ET, Luxeed S7 and Luxeed R7 available at JLR for electric vehicles.

It will be interesting to see if JLR will sell its E0X and M3X cars only in China or export them to other markets. The Range Rover EV model was unveiled about two months ago and is expected to go on sale later this year. Details of the Range Rover EV have yet to be revealed, but it may feature a dual-motor system that mimics 4WD. JLR revealed its waiting list for the electric Range Rover in December last year and said it had already received more than 16,000 expressions of interest by February.
